Marquette Senior High School
Entrepreneurship Project

This Educational Service Project is a combined effort of the MCEE and Marquette School District to integrate economics and entrepreneurial concepts into vocational classes at MSHS. This program was instituted in order for students to be able to successfully apply their fabricating skills learned in the classroom to real world opportunities. Students in the metal shop class were able to put their training to the test at 2004's Craft Expo where they sold products they had created during the semester.

The Process

Volunteers from the the ESA develop original lesson plans and spend the first 15-30 minutes of the class period educating metals students in basics of business, entrepreneurship, and economics.

Project Expansion

Participants in this pilot program are mainly 9-10th graders in Bill Shaw's metal shop class. Future plans include getting wood shop and IT classes involved in the lessons, creating a mail order catalog of products and custom making items to customer specification. Also, a long term goal of the project is for students to financially profit from their work; this would be the ultimate incentive to participate.
